For Sunday afternoon naps...

It's Sunday afternoon. Overcast and steadily raining and made for napping. After coming home from church, climbing back into my pajamas, and pouring a cup of tea, I scoured the DVD shelf for a good movie to fall asleep too. Here are my top 4 faves for afternoon napping:

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Afternoon napping qualities: melodic piano soundtrack; soft, dreamy lighting; turn of the 19th century clothing/etiquette/language; that scene in the pouring rain where Mr. Darcy confesses he loves Lizzie and she tells him off.

Sabrina (1995)*
Afternoon napping qualities: Julia Ormond's soothing narration voice; the scenes where Sabrina goes to Paris and figures out who she is; Harrison Ford as the stodgy Linus Larrabee who finds his heart.

Gilmore Girls (2000-2007; particularly seasons 1-4)
Afternoon napping qualities: the fact that I know all the episodes so well that they're completely comfortable and it doesn't matter if I sleep through them; I've also developed the ability to sleep with the remote in my hand to ffwd through the theme song.

You've Got Mail (1998)*
Afternoon napping qualities: Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan; "Don't you just love New York in the fall? Makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils"; Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan; the fact that Meg Ryan makes having a cold look completely charming; did I mention Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan?

Now, I realize that these are fairly girly movies, so that said, I will also happily nap during Sunday afternoon football games. They're just not an option since we don't currently get any channels. Happy Napping!

*I've just realized that 2/4 of the movies feature Greg Kinnear as a supporting actor. Interesting coincidence.
